Hemjakot is a beautiful village located on the foothills of Mt. Macchapucchare, otherwise known to English speakers as Fishtail Mountain. It’s just a 75-minute drive, or a one-hour drive plus a one-hour trek, from Pokhara. Rich in cultural authenticity and beautiful views, Hemjakot is an ideal destination from which travelers can admire the majestic Himalayas and gain a deeper understanding of the local rural lifestyle.
Fourteen households belong to the Hemjakot Community Homestay network, belonging to the Gurung and Dalit communities. The Tibetan-derived Gurung community is culturally dominant here. Staying at this homestay gives visitors the chance to experience the rural lifestyles of these mountain-dwelling people.
Another major attraction of staying at this homestay are the spectacular views. You don’t need to trek deeper into the Himalayas (unless you want to!) to experience some of the best, uncrowded views of the high Annapurna Himalaya, especially Machhapuchhre and Annapurna. From Hemjakot village you can see the Himalaya to the north, and green, cultivated hills to the south.
